Whitt has more than 30 years experience in building, development and property management. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1986 with a degree in Agricultural Economics also obtaining a Texas Real Estate License that same year. After graduation he worked for Ron Lightsey Incorporated as construction supervisor. In 1987 Whitt purchased his first rental property and formed Regency Properties. Later Ron and Whitt Lightsey became partners and started developing, building, selling and leasing duplexes.

Whitt and his wife Patty have been married for 19 years and have two sons, Jesse and Tanner. The Lightseys reside in College Station and their hobbies include a Texas Hill Country hunting operation, Brazos Valley Faith Riders Equestrian Drill Team, fishing, and exploring nature.
